Eagles-Giants: Game time, how to watch and stream

The Eagles will take on the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football tonight, and for the second straight week, Joe Buck and Troy Aikman will call the game.

Fans in both Philadelphia and New York love to hate Buck, but the longtime play-by-play announcer told the Inquirer and Daily News he has nothing but love for both fan bases, and thinks they're quite similar.

"They care. The two fan bases are similar. Very territorial. They can criticize their team, but if you're not from there, you better not say a word," Buck said. "Since I'm from the Midwest, I am not part of either group. They let me know about it but mostly in a fun way. I'm happy they know I'm there, and again, I am happy they care."

You may criticize Buck's broadcasting abilities, but it's hard to knock him for being lazy. In addition to calling two NFL games a week thanks to FOX's $3.3 million deal to broadcast Thursday Night Football, Buck will also lead the network's coverage of the World Series later this month.

"And at home, I have twin boys who are 5 1/2 months old. Sleep comes on the road these days," Buck joked. "It's a lot of traveling, but a lot of work? No, it's just too fun to be called that."

FOX will air FOX NFL Thursday live at 7:30 p.m., featuring Michael Strahan, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Tony Gonzalez, Jay Glazer, and Charissa Thompson. Bradshaw and Long will offer an immediate recap after the game.

Over on the NFL Network, NFL GameDay Kickoff will start at 6 p.m., hosted by Philadelphia native and WIP alum Colleen Wolfe. Joining Wolfe live from outside MetLife Stadium will be Michael Irvin, Steve Smith Sr. and Reggie Bush.

As far as local-network pregame shows go, on NBC Sports Philadelphia, Eagles Pregame Live, hosted by Michael Barkann and featuring Seth Joyner, Ray Didinger, and Barrett Brooks, will air live starting at 6:30 p.m. Ed Rendell, the former Pennsylvania governor and Daily News columnist, will join the crew for Eagles Postgame Live after the game. NBC10 will air Eagles Gameday Kickoff at 7:30 p.m. (hosted by Danny Pommells) and Eagles GamePlan at 9 p.m. (featuring John Clark, Ike Reese, and Mike Quick).

With just two games under FOX's belt (Weeks 2 through 3 aired exclusively on the NFL Network), it's hard to draw an conclusion about FOX's ratings on Thursday night so far this season. But early signs are promising.

FOX averaged 14.5 million viewers for its Week 4 matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and the Los Angeles Rams, which is up 3 percent up compared to what CBS and NBC averaged on Thursday night last season and stands as the network's most-watched prime-time telecast since last season's NFC championship game between the Eagles and Vikings.

In Week 5, FOX dipped a bit, averaging a bit fewer than 13.3 million viewers, which was down 14 percent compared to last season's Week 5 Thursday night matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots (which was a season high for CBS). It's worth pointing out that cable news drew an outsized audience last Thursday night leading up to the confirmation vote of new Supreme Court justice Brett Kavanaugh, with CNN, FOX News, and MSNBC up 30 percent over last year with a combined 7.5 million average viewers.

• While Eagles fans wait to see if the team trades for a running back, Zach Berman writes that Corey Clement will have a chance to show the front office that it doesn't need to acquire LeSean McCoy or anyone else.

• Marcus Hayes points to four Eagles players who need to step up tonight, including defensive end Brandon Graham, who's looking for a new contract.

• The Eagles will be short of defensive players, with linebackers D.J. Alexander and Nathan Gerry, safety Corey Graham, and defensive tackle Haloti Ngata all out with injuries.

• Eli Manning is completing a career-best 71.7 percent of his passes, and Zach Berman writes he has relied on quick passes and the ball is coming out of his hands in 2.65 seconds this season, which is far from the fastest in the league.

• Former Eagles linebacker Connor Barwin, now wearing No. 53 for the New York Giants, will face off tonight against his former teammates. But Les Bowen writes his playing time will probably be cut because of the return of Olivier Vernon.
