John Paul II starts basketball program with a win

Five players reached double figures for Pope John Paul II, including Jeff Evans, who scored 14 points and handed out seven assists.

Abington Ghost Tournament. Joe Getz struck for a school-record 40 points and lifted Archbishop Wood past West Chester Henderson, 65-57, in a semifinal game.

Getz scored 13 points in the first quarter, 24 in the first half, and broke the Vikings' single-game scoring record of 38 points set in 1992 by Sean Brennan.

Central Bucks West Tournament. Kevin Garling scored all but four of Ridley's points in the final quarter and led the Green Raiders to a 44-41 semifinal win over Wissahickon. Garling and teammate Sean Church scored 15 points each.

Council Rock South Tournament. Pat Silverthorn collected 13 points for the host Golden Hawks in a 46-41 semifinal win over Academy Park.

Germantown Community Tournament. Lijah Lewis poured in 13 points and helped Roxborough beat host Germantown Friends, 32-28, in a semifinal game.

Oreland Lions Tournament. Brahieme Jackson picked up 25 points for Bishop McDevitt in a 59-56 semifinal win over Upper Moreland.

Radnor Tournament. Duncan Becker dropped in 23 points and sparked Devon Prep to a 61-54 semifinal win over Chichester.

Springfield (Delco) Tournament. Tony Calamaro converted a running layup with 17 seconds left and handed Downingtown West a 47-45 win over Freire Charter in a semifinal game.

Girls' Basketball

Maggie Borski scored all 18 of her points from beyond the arc on six three-pointers to lead Nazareth Academy past New Hope-Solebury, 68-32, in the first round of the Hatboro-Horsham Girls' Basketball Tournament on Friday.

Bristol Coaches vs. Cancer. At Bristol High, Conwell-Egan needed a 19-4 fourth-quarter run to close out Morrisville, 42-36. Brittany Liszewswki's 16 points paced the Eagles.

Calvary Baptist Tournament. Plumstead Christian got 10 points from Alex Petrie to beat host Calvary Baptist, 28-16, in a first-round game.

Oreland Lions Tournament. Lindsay Walder's 12 points helped Upper Moreland get past Jenkintown, 28-22, in a first-round game at Springfield (Montgomery County).

George Carter Classic. At Chester, Sierra Wilkinson's layup with five seconds left gave Freire Charter a 39-38 first-round win over Imhotep Charter. Wilkinson led the Dragons with 18 points.

Public. Nefertitti Huckaby's 31 points lifted Lincoln past host Franklin Towne Charter, 55-42.

Taylor Jones had a fine debut with 24 points for host Northeast in a 45-43 win over Olney.

Dianna Murhead-Dwyer scored 13 points for Overbrook in its 25-20 win over visiting Washington.

Taneil Ruffin scored 18 points for host Masterman in a 54-46 win over Mastbaum.

Tri-County. Nicole Pupillo made all 10 of her free throws and finished with 23 points to lead host Perkiomen School past Woodlynde, 39-21.
