S. Jersey Girls: Salem's Coppage joins 1,000-point club

Senior guard Shaqui Coppage opened the girls' basketball season in style, becoming the eighth player in Salem history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark, as the host Rams ran over Schalick, 60-25, on Friday night.

Coppage hit the milestone on a third-quarter layup and went on to finish the Tri-County Conference game with 27 points, boosting her career total to 1,006.

Williamstown freshman forward Valerie Piniero made an immediate impact, totaling 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 74-26 rout of visiting Highland. Piniero led five Braves' scorers in double figures, with Courtney Caulfield adding 12 points while Jade Bonder, Dayna Fyffe, and Jalen Reed netted 10 apiece. Liz Looby's 13 points paced the Tartans.

Lauren Husser dominated the lane, as the senior center posted 20 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocks in carrying host Woodstown past GCIT, 46-37. Sophomore small forward Tori Smick contributed 13 points, eight steals, and six assists for the Wolverines, who took command with a 17-2 third-quarter surge.

Tori Levari (15 points) and Jackie Short (14) fueled a 16-7 fourth-quarter spree, enabling Delsea to pull away to a 46-38 victory at Kingsway. The Dragons' Liz Faulkner led all scorers with 17 points.

Rebecca Donnelly (14 points) keyed Glassboro's long-range attack, as the Bulldogs connected on six shots from beyond the arc in a 49-27 romp at Deptford. Janelle Bundy had 13 points for the Spartans, who trailed by one after the first quarter.

Olympic. Senior center Hope Phillips established a career high with 32 points while Taylor Hudspeth chipped in 13 points, and Bishop Eustace pounded host Pennsauken, 64-26. Vanessa Neal countered with 14 points for the Indians.

Brittany Snow grabbed 10 rebounds and made 11 of 13 free throws in scoring a game-high 23 points, and Taylor Watson added a dozen points as host Seneca slammed Winslow Township, 53-37.

Junior center Adrienne Small excelled in the low post, collecting 18 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks as host Paul VI trampled Triton, 68-22. Carla Chmielewski (16 points) and Morgan Harris (13) aided the Eagles' assault.

Freshman twins Kelly (22 points) and Kylie Giedemann (13) made their varsity debut memorable by lifting Washington Township over visiting Shawnee, 65-50.

Brianna Wylie's 14 points led Lenape, which ran out to a 27-9 first-half lead and coasted to a 44-23 win at Cherry Hill West.

Colonial. Katie Getzinger had 10 rebounds to go with her 14 points, helping Haddon Township cruise to a 58-39 win at Woodbury.

Lavon Childress (18 points) and Tiaja Harrold (17) had the hot hands for host Paulsboro in a 55-18 demolition of Lindenwold.

Burlington County. Taylor Umbrell scored 12 of her 17 points from long distance, Crystal Cleveland cleared 10 boards, and host Delran used a 13-2 second-quarter run to hold off Holy Cross, 42-35.

Christine Caruso, who made 12 of 15 from the floor in scoring 27 points, also came through with five rebounds and four assists in host Riverside's 53-34 defeat of Florence.
