Willenbrock chooses Va. Tech for football

Downingtown East's Jack Willenbrock, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound offensive tackle, has committed to play football at Virginia Tech. "The team has a great leader in [coach] Frank Beamer," the junior said. "He's led them to 18 consecutive bowl games. I wanted to be part of that kind of tradition."

Willenbrock, of Glenmoore, visited Virginia Tech last week. It was the first school to make him an offer. The 17-year-old also made unofficial trips to Penn State, Pittsburgh, and West Virginia.

Last season, Willenbrock, who is projected to be a guard in college, helped East tailback Drew Harris rush for 1,930 yards and 27 touchdowns.

The quick-footed Harris, close to reaching 4,000 career rushing yards, has 20-plus scholarship offers, including from Virginia Tech, Miami, Penn State, and Michigan.
