The Palmyra football team hasn't been able to call itself a sectional champion since 1978.

The Panthers couldn't change that fact on Saturday afternoon, as they fell to powerful Shore Regional, 56-28, in the Central Jersey Group 1 final at Kean University.

Senior quarterback Max Smyth did his best to keep his team in the game. He threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns. But the Panthers couldn't stop the Shore rushing attack, which rolled up 505 yards.

Palmyra got strong play from a pair of sophomores.

Taj Harris caught two touchdown passes, including a 48-yarder, and Elijah Karnjay had a 58-yard touchdown reception.

South Carolina recruit Kelvin Harmon returned a fumble 38 yards for a touchdown.
