S. Jersey Boys: Tues. S.J. boys: Hansen lifts Bishop Eustace

Roy Hansen's statistics weren't too shabby Tuesday. He scored five goals, assisted on another, and went 11 for 15 on faceoffs.

Roy Hansen's statistics weren't too shabby Tuesday. He scored five goals, assisted on another, and went 11 for 15 on faceoffs.

But those gaudy numbers probably won't be what the sophomore midfielder will remember about Bishop Eustace's 15-10 win at Newark Academy in the first round of the South Jersey Non-Public B Tournament.

Instead, he'll savor the number one, as in the first boys' lacrosse playoff victory for the Crusaders in program history. Bishop Eustace, the No. 10 seed, first fielded a team in 2007. Newark Academy was the No. 7 seed.

Pat Buckley added four goals, and Vince Papale scored three. Harry Brown scored twice and had four assists. Sean Carlin made 15 saves.

Non-Public B first round. Dean DiSimone scored five goals to pace No. 4 St. Augustine to a 16-2 win over visiting Paul VI, the No. 13 seed. Chase Young added three goals, and Ryan Zurawski scored two.

Group 3 quarterfinals. Three Shawnee players scored three goals each, and the second-seeded Renegades cruised to a 14-6 win over visiting Colts Neck, the No. 7 seed. Jake Dean, Mike Githens and Dave Smith scored three apiece, with Smith and Githens both picking up two assists.

Top-seeded Moorestown rolled by visiting Kingsway, the No. 8 seed, 12-0. Michael Handlan scored four goals, and Matt Olbrich and Nick Testa each had two.

Baseball

Joe Craig's bases-loaded walk drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh, and Camden Catholic defeated visiting Seneca, 12-11, in an Olympic Conference National game. Ben Acero went 3 for 4, including a third-inning grand slam. He drove in five runs. Seneca's Bryce Sonberg went 3 for 4 with a three-run home run and a pair of two-run doubles.

Colonial Conference. Senior righthander Scott Irwin earned the win in his final varsity start, and Collingswood won at Paulsboro, 8-1. Irwin also went 2 for 4 with a double. Brett Kuchera went 2 for 3 and drove in two runs.

Tri-County Diamond. Making his first start of the season as he returned from injury, Mike Mercer hardly looked like he missed any time in Gloucester Catholic's 13-0 win at Schalick. Mercer threw a shutout, allowing one hit and striking out seven. Freshman Derrick Smolenski doubled twice and drove in five runs in his first varsity start. Pat Hiester was 2 for 3 with four RBIs.

Cape-Atlantic American. Justin Smith went 4 for 4 with a double to pace host Hammonton past Absegami, 11-7. Mike Earling was 3 for 5 and knocked in two runs.

Cape-Atlantic National. Mike Versage's two-run homer in the third inning keyed Middle Township's 12-7 win at Lower Cape May. He had three RBIs.

Nonleague. Ryan Long and Steve Bucci homered for Washington Township in a 14-4 win over visiting Winslow Township.

Cole Pewor hit his 10th double of the season in host Cinnaminson's 7-4 defeat of Pennsauken. Pewor went 3 for 4 and scored twice.
