S. Jersey Boys: Wildwood Catholic boys win in double OT

Most teams would be thrilled to get even one buzzer beater in a basketball game. But Wildwood Catholic needed two buzzer beaters - and then some - to defeat Williamstown, 61-57, in double overtime Monday in the consolation game of the Boardwalk Classic-Frank McAlarnen Memorial Bracket at Wildwoods Convention Center.

But Wildwood Catholic needed two buzzer beaters - and then some - to defeat Williamstown, 61-57, in double overtime Monday in the consolation game of the Boardwalk Classic-Frank McAlarnen Memorial Bracket at Wildwoods Convention Center.

Caleb Fields (19 points, 11 rebounds) made a field goal in the paint with 1 minute, 54 seconds remaining in double overtime to give the Rams the lead for good.

D.J. Smith made a three-pointer, off an assist from Jalen Freeman, to tie things at at 52 end of the first overtime.

At the end of regulation, Fields grabbed a rebound with one second remaining and kicked it out to Ryan Legler who scored the tying three-pointer as time expired.

Spartan Classic Holiday Tournament. Tyke Whitfield-Gaines had 29 points and five assists as Palmyra won, 77-72, over LEAP Academy Charter at Doane Academy. LEAP Academy Charter senior Donovon Guess scored 46 points, including the 1,00th of his career. He is only the second player in school history to achieve this milestone.

Boardwalk Classic - Dave Lewis Memorial Bracket. Rob Normil's 35 points and seven rebounds led Atlantic Christian to a 59-54 overtime win over Buena at the Wildwood Convention Center.

Butch McLean Memorial Invitational. Troy Johnson scored 20 points to push Schalick to a 64-63 win over Pennsauken at Haddon Heights. Johnson also had eight rebounds and two blocks. Taylor Clarke had 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Gregg Williams (12 points) helped Gloucester Catholic overcome a scoreless first quarter and defeat Triton, 44-40. Williams also had four rebounds and four assists.
