La Salle pulls away from Judge in second half

Maybe it was the mist falling across Northeast High on Saturday night, but the first half of La Salle's 35-7 victory against host Father Judge was slow-moving and less than aesthetically pleasing.

Maybe it was the mist falling across Northeast High on Saturday night, but the first half of La Salle's 35-7 victory against host Father Judge was slow-moving and less than aesthetically pleasing.

What a difference a half made in this Catholic League Red Division matchup.

Junior wide receiver Troy Holland finished with 213 yards and two touchdowns on 13 catches for the Explorers after netting just 49 first-half yards.

Senior quarterback Tom LaMorte finished with 264 passing yards and three touchdowns on 18-of-21 passing.

In the first half, however, La Salle's defense stymied the Crusaders.

Judge (3-3, 1-1), depleted by injuries, mustered just 54 first-half yards.

Senior quarterback Rob King, who missed significant practice time in the last week because of an injury, finished 7 for 23 for 158 yards and a score.

La Salle forced the Crusaders into six turnovers, including four lost fumbles.

Tre McNeill and Manny Quiles each nabbed an interception for the Explorers.

In addition to LaMorte and Holland's dominating in the air, senior running back Syaire Madden earned 68 hard-earned yards on the ground.

Madden also finished with two ground tallies that gave La Salle a 14-0 edge at halftime.

Judge got on the scoreboard late when King hit Justin Gies (four catches, 95 yards) for a 57-yard touchdown.

The Crusaders finished with 219 yards of offense.

Judge will face Archbishop Wood next. La Salle will be off next week.
