Minding the young arms

The Phillies hired longtime pitching coach Rafael Chaves to be their minor-league pitching coordinator.

Chaves, 46, spent the 2014 season as a special assistant for player personnel with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He spent five years as the Dodgers' minor-league pitching coordinator.

Chaves was the Seattle Mariners' pitching coach from 2006-07. He also served as a minor-league pitching coach with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Tacoma, San Antonio, San Bernadino, Wisconsin, rookie-level Everett, and the Arizona League Mariners.

Carlos Arroyo will resume his previous duties as the Phillies' minor-league roving pitching coach.
