In the hours after he dealt Marlon Byrd to the Cincinnati Reds on New Year's Eve, Ruben Amaro Jr. mentioned the likely possibility of Domonic Brown this season moving from left field back to right field.

After speaking with Brown again, Amaro noted Friday that the 27-year-old is preparing as if that will be the case, though the general manager added he thinks Brown is "prepared to play anywhere."

"I think he's in a good frame of mind. I think it would be a good thing for him because I think he feels more comfortable in right field, so we'll see," Amaro said. "But he's got work to do out there. He still needs to improve on certain areas of the game."

Brown, who followed up his 2013 all-star campaign with a woeful 2014, was one of two arbitration-eligible players with whom the Phillies settled on Friday. Brown agreed to a one-year contract worth $2.5 million. Centerfielder Ben Revere will make $4.1 million this season.

For either player, this signifies a raise. Revere, 26, earned $1.95 million last season, in which he batted .306 with a .686 OPS. Brown made $550,000 each of the last two seasons. This was his first year of arbitration, meaning the process accounted for his success in 2013 and his struggles in 2014.

"I think it's his time to be one of those guys that we're talking about: Who's the new nucleus of the Phillies going to be?," Ryne Sandberg said. "There are jobs to be solidified and jobs to be won. For [Brown] to take the bull by the horns and to be one of those players at this time in his career at his age, I think that's important for him."

In a separate Friday move, the Phillies added another outfielder to compete for a roster spot in spring training. They claimed Jordan Danks off waivers, eight days after the 28-year-old was designated for assignment by the Chicago White Sox.

Danks, whose addition gives the Phillies a full 40-man roster, is primarily a centerfielder but has played each of the three outfield positions. He hit .222 in 117 major-league at-bats last season. He spent most of the year in triple-A Charlotte, hitting .270 with 18 doubles, 16 home runs and 57 RBIs over 93 games.

The Phillies, Amaro said, were attracted to Danks because of his power, athleticism and defensive ability.
