Sixers bring back Elton Brand
THE 76ERS need another big man on their roster about as much as the upcoming presidential election needs controversy. But that's not why the team signed veteran Elton Brand on Wednesday. Brand will be that important locker-room presence that this painfully young team needs, to help with the growth of youngsters such as Joel Embiid, Jahlil Okafor, Nerlens Noel and Dario Saric.

A 17-year veteran of the league, Brand joined the Sixers just after the holidays last season to basically perform in the role of mentor. He had a four-year stint with the team from 2008 to 2012, when he averaged 12.7 points and 7.2 rebounds a game.
The first overall pick of the Chicago Bulls in 1999, Brand is a two-time all-star and earned rookie of the year.
Also, the Sixers' NBA D-League affiliate, the Delaware 87ers, announced that have hired former Villanova star Curtis Sumpter as player development coach, and Phil Martelli Jr. as an assistant coach.
