Union agree to keep goalie Brian Sylvestre for 8 weeks

The Union have unofficially solved their goalie situation by agreeing to extend the short-term loan to keeper Brian Sylvestre for eight weeks.

The Union have unofficially solved their goalie situation by agreeing to extend the short-term loan to keeper Brian Sylvestre for eight weeks.

The 22-year-old Sylvestre, who joined the team last Saturday and played in the Union's 3-0 Major League Soccer loss at Vancouver, is on loan from the Carolina RailHawks of the North American Soccer League.

In exchange, the Union have agreed to loan forward Dzenan Catic for the eight weeks to Carolina.

While the two sides have agreed to the deal, it has yet to be approved by MLS, holding up any official announcement.

Catic was the Union's top pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, the 31st overall choice in the second round from Davenport University in Michigan, where he led his team to the NAIA national championship.

He had not played this year for the Union.

Sylvestre, who played well in his debut, but didn't receive much defensive support, is expected to start in Sunday's MLS match at PPL Park against D.C. United.

Keeper John McCarthy, who missed last week because of a concussion suffered in practice, is the likely backup. McCarthy, however, can't be cleared to play until Saturday at the earliest.
