Spectators, family members, friends, race officials, onlookers, and volunteers as well as the play of light as the sun rises over the city and the day begins in Center City, along the Schuylkill and in Fairmount Park and Manayunk.

After covering many other aspects of the marathon, and the Broad Street Run, the photographer rode in the lead, time-keeping vehicle that drove in front of the runners. Then, rather than spend the two-plus hours and 26.2 miles of the race focused on the pack of four to five elite runners who took an early lead, he captured other scenes along their route.
