Eugene J. Richardson Jr., a Tuskegee Airman, speaks with reporters while standing with his wife Helen, during a ceremony celebrating his upcoming 100th birthday in Mount Laurel. Richardson was commissioned on March 11, 1945, after pilot training in Tuskegee, Alabama. He was a charter member of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen. When asked about the secret to his longevity, Richardson said “Glory be to God,” in addition to eating well, and staying away from alcohol and cigarettes.
