Joel Embiid was fined $50,000 for doing the DX chop motion following an and-1 conversion during the 76ers’ Friday loss to the Boston Celtics, the NBA announced Sunday afternoon.
Embiid has been fined for the celebration before, which the league called “lewd” in a news release. Embiid responded on X by posting, “Y’all better start fining the refs for doing the ‘Lewd’, ‘blocking foul’ gesture since I’m not allowed to do it.”

Embiid is averaging 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 22.3 minutes in four games this season. He missed Sunday’s game at the Brooklyn Nets, a scheduled absence as he continues his road back from knee surgery.
