Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia will open a new $289 million hospital in King of Prussia on Wednesday. The 52-bed facility includes an emergency department dedicated to children and a 16-bed intensive care unit. The new hospital is intended to ease pressure on CHOP’s West Philadelphia hospital, which is routinely above 90% capacity, while drawing in new patients who may have been unable to get into Philadelphia for care. “We want this to be a front door to CHOP,” said Allison Ballantine, associate chief medical officer at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in King of Prussia.
