Two people remained hospitalized last night after being shot in separate incidents in the city, police said.

A 19-year-old woman was in stable condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania after being shot in the back just before 5 p.m. Monday in the 800 block of North 20th Street in Kensington, a police spokesperson said. No weapon was recovered and no arrests were made.

Also on Monday evening, a 55-year-old man remained in stable condition at Temple University Hospital after he was shot once in the left ankle around 9:35 p.m. on the 2800 block of Frankford Avenue in the Francisville section of the city, police said. Similar to the first shooting, police said, no arrests were made and no weapon was found.

The shootings marred an otherwise quiet Labor Day evening that was marked by a three-alarm fire in North Philadelphia at 16th and Oxford Streets in a vacant building.
