"That’s a joke! That’s an absolute joke!” CBS Sports Radio host Zach Gelb said after Deebo Samuel abruptly ended their interview.

It’s been 164 days since the Eagles defeated the 49ers in the NFC Championship game, but the loss appears to be lingering in the minds of some San Francisco players and coaches.

The latest incident involves 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who sat for an interview Monday with CBS Sports Radio host Zach Gelb.

Gelb, a Temple grad and a former 94.1 WIP intern, spoke with Samuel for a few minutes about his viral treadmill video and the 49ers’ quarterback situation before bringing up the Eagles.

During the 31-7 loss to the Eagles, the 49ers’ quarterback Brock Purdy suffered an arm injury that followed Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo’s season-ending injuries, leaving them shorthanded against the Birds. It remains unclear if Purdy will be able to return to the 49ers by the start of the season.

Samuel hadn’t been shy about the loss. Back in February, he appeared on Sirius XM’s “Mad Dog Sports Radio” and said the 49ers would’ve beaten the Eagles by double digits if quarterback Brock Purdy hadn’t been injured. In May, he told Complex magazine he was tired of all the Eagles’ trash talk, telling the magazine, “We lost because we played with 10 people.”

But when asked about the loss by Gelb on Monday, Samuel was reluctant to speak.

“We’re not going to keep talking about it,” Samuel said. “I said what I said.”

The Eagles will host the 49ers in a Week 13 rematch of the NFC championship game during the 2023 season, but Samuel didn’t have any predictions to offer.

“I don’t know. Just wait until Week 13, 12, whatever week it is, and we’ll show you,” Samuel said.

At that point, a woman’s voice chimed in to tell a surprised Gelb, “Hey, guys, alright, we’re good to go,” ending the interview.

“Are you serious?” Gelb said following the interview, which he said was supposed to last 15 minutes. “All we did was ask him about the quarterback situation and then Philadelphia, and we got hung up on by Deebo Samuel? That’s a joke! That’s an absolute joke!”

Samuel’s retreat is the latest in what has become an ongoing series of incidents where 49ers players and coaches who still appear bitter over their NFC championship loss to the Eagles.

In May, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said his wife, Mandy, won’t be traveling to Philadelphia to attend their rematch this season because of how she was treated

“I don’t like going back to Philly again. My wife’s bitter about it a little bit,” Shanahan said at a May event, according to the San Jose Mercury News. “She didn’t like her fan experience in the stands. So she’s not going this time.”

Running back Christian McCaffery falsely complained that the NFL doesn’t allow teams to carry a third quarterback on the roster (they do), and kicker Robbie Gould questioned Jalen Hurts ability as a quarterback.

The Eagles will host the 49ers at Lincoln Financial Field on Dec. 3 at 4:25 p.m.
