Eagles news: Nick Sirianni forced to defend the Tush Push (again); Jalen Hurts' trash talk goes viral; injury updates
The Eagles are 2-0 after hard-fought wins against the Chiefs and Cowboys.

The Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 20-17 Sunday, though the victory wasn't pretty at times.
Rookie Drew Mukuba played a huge role in the Eagles' win, and veteran defender Za’Darius Smith made his Birds' debut.
Jeff McLane's Eagles grades: Defensive line came up big and the special teams game through.
Columnist Marcus Hayes thinks the Eagles proved they are the best team in the NFL with Sunday's win. Though Adam Schefter and others still really hate the Tush Push
The Eagles will face the Los Angeles Rams (2-0) at the Linc Sunday, a rematch of last year's NFC divisional playoffs.
Eagles injury report
It looks like the Eagles are leaving Kansas City relatively unscathed.
In the fourth quarter, defensive tackle Jordan Davis chased Patrick Mahomes out of bounds and pulled up lame with a cramp. He jogged off the field and went back to the locker room.
DeVonta Smith left the game in the third quarter after landing hard on his back. He returned and made a clutch third-down catch in the fourth quarter, but was seen walking very gingerly following the game.

Can the continuity the Eagles preached when they hired Kevin Patullo be the solver?
In elevating Kevin Patullo to the offensive coordinator job after Kellen Moore left to become the head coach in New Orleans, head coach Nick Sirianni pointed to both Patullo’s readiness for the role and the continuity putting him in that spot would provide.
It’s an element the Eagles will probably lean on as they try to get more out of the offense.
“Just the knowledge of the players, the ability to have conversations, and the connection he has with those guys,” Sirianni said. “Communication is so key because you’re constantly trying to work to get better.
The Eagles are trying to get more explosive on offense
The Eagles know their offense needs to get more explosive.
Big plays have been few and far between so far. There are the overarching positives: The Eagles are 2-0, and they haven’t turned the ball over while producing two takeaways of their own. But the Eagles also have too much talent between Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith for the offense to look as impotent as it has so far.
The Eagles are averaging five yards per passing play, according to Next Gen Stats, and only four teams who have played two games rank lower. One of them is the New Orleans Saints, widely expected to be among the worst teams in the league. Another is a Tennessee Titans team with a rookie quarterback. The other two are the Bryce Young-led Carolina Panthers, and then a Washington team that had to deal with Micah Parsons and the Green Bay Packers in Week 2.
Sirianni defends the Tush Push against latest wave of haters
Nick Sirianni saw the clips that circulated on social media Sunday and Monday and reignited the Great Tush Push Debate, the clips that caused ESPN’s Adam Schefter — who works for a company that the NFL has stake in — say the Eagles had beaten the Chiefs not on Sunday, but back in March, and later May, when the Tush Push survived a coordinated effort for it to meet its demise.
The circulating clips show movement along the Eagles’ offensive line, particularly guards Landon Dickerson and Tyler Steen, before the ball is snapped, but Sirianni contended that slo-mo versions of any video could be misleading.
“I’m not sure you could see that to the naked eye," Sirianni said Monday.

Carson Wentz is back
Raise your hand if you knew Carson Wentz was with the Vikings this year.
Wentz, the former Eagles-Colts-Commanders-Rams-Chiefs quarterback, signed with the Vikings in August after the team traded Sam Howell to the Eagles.
With starting quarterback JJ McCarthy sidelined with an ankle injury, the Vikings will turn to Wentz when they take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3 Sunday.

Rookie Drew Mukuba's standout game
Drew Mukuba was trying to respond to questions from the crowd of reporters around his locker stall inside the visitors’ locker room at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, but the rookie safety had competition.
“Yeah, Drew,” Mukuba’s Eagles teammates were yelling over the player who changed the game with an interception of Patrick Mahomes when the Kansas City Chiefs were threatening to take the lead early in the fourth quarter.
The book on Mukuba, the Eagles’ second-round pick out of Texas, is a player who, despite being undersized for a typical NFL safety, has a knack for being around the football. He proved that scouting report when he intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown in his preseason debut, and it took just seven-plus quarters for him to make a big impact with another turnover during the real stuff.
Is Nolan Smith the new Brandon Graham?
Chris Long, the former Eagles defensive end and current host of the Green Light podcast, had high praise for second-year rusher Nolan Smith, who had three tackles and a forced fumble in Sunday’s game.
“Nolan Smith is an absolute dog,” Long said. “He’s one of my favorite players on the Eagles’ defense, because he sets edges, he can rush the passer. He’s going to be their [Brandon Graham] from here on out, the do-everything edge who might not wow you with 12 sacks a season, might not make Pro Bowls, but that guy can play football.”
Graham retired after last season, following his second Super Bowl victory, as the franchise's all-time leader in games played (206), third in career sacks (76.5), and fifth in total tackles (359 solo).

Eagles-Rams Week 3 odds
After a 20-17 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, the Eagles will now turn their attention to their next opponent: the Los Angeles Rams. The last time both teams met, a trip to the NFC Championship game was on the line.
During last year’s NFC divisional round playoff game, the Rams traveled to Lincoln Financial Field to lose 28-22 in the biggest snow game in Philadelphia since 2013. Now, the Eagles and Rams will meet back in the City of Brotherly Love for Week 3 — but this time in much better suited weather for the West Coast team.
The Rams are coming off a 33-19 win over the Tennessee Titans. Meanwhile the Eagles have continued their success from last season, defeating Kansas City in a Super Bowl rematch. With both teams sitting at 2-0, the sportsbooks are favoring Philadelphia going into Week 3 as they open as 4.5-point favorites.
Tush push again in focus as ESPN's Adam Schefter voices frustration
RIP tush push?
The Eagles' signature play faced serious scrutiny Sunday on social media after officials appeared to miss a couple false start penalties on the Birds.
“I am done with the Tush Push, guys,” Fox Sports rules expert Dean Blandino said during Sunday's broadcast. “It’s a hard play to officiate.”
Jordan Davis' heavy workload, Za’Darius Smith's quick impact
The Eagles released the snap counts from the Eagles’ 20-17 victory in Kansas City Monday morning, and here are a few notes:
Jordan Davis saw another heavy workload — though not quite as heavy as Week 1 after Jalen Carter’s ejection. Davis was on the field for 53% of the defensive plays and probably would’ve been on for even more if he didn’t cramp up. He was impactful, too, with two pass breakups. The Eagles and Davis said repeatedly over the summer that Davis’ weight loss and conditioning had him in a spot to play a lot and take on a bigger role. So far, so good.
Rookie undrafted free agent Darius Cooper saw just two snaps last week. On Sunday, he was on the field for 12 of the 60 offensive plays. Why? The Eagles like his blocking ability over Jahan Dotson’s.
How ready was Za’Darius Smith going to be after signing the day after the Eagles’ Week 1 victory? Smith saw 20 snaps and made his mark right away with a partial sack that he shared with Drew Mukuba.
New running back Tank Bigsby didn’t see any work with the offense, even with Will Shipley out with his oblique injury. The 60 offensive snaps were divided between Saquon Barkley (50) and AJ Dillon (10). Bigsby was on the field for four kick returns, though. The Chiefs, however, opted to kick the ball to John Metchie over Bigsby.

The Eagles dominated the Emmys
While the Eagles were winning in Kansas City, the Birds were all over Sunday night's Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.
The most notable Eagles fan was Hacks' star Hannah Einbinder, who won the Emmy for best supporting actress in a comedy series. Einbinder grew up in Los Angeles but picked up her Eagles fandom from her Doylestown-born father, leading her to offer a "Go Birds!" shoutout during her acceptance speech (among other more controversial topics).
Philly native Quinta Brunson also had the Birds on her mind ahead of the ceremony, telling Gayle King, "You saw they just won, right?"
Eagles numbers, including the best stretch of wins in franchise history
The Eagles’ 20-17 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs wasn’t the most beautiful display of football, but wins are wins, and it’s the lone stat by which Jalen Hurts measures himself.
Speaking of stats... While the Eagles didn’t put up gaudy numbers, there were some individual performances and overarching numbers that stood out.
Here are a five notable numbers in a series of stats put together by Eagles PR during and after the game:
Remember Jake Elliott’s struggles last year, when he went 1-for-7 on field goals from 50-plus yards during the regular season? He has three such kicks so far in 2025 after adding two Sunday, the first time he connected on two from 50-plus in a single game since Sept. 10, 2023.
While we’re talking kicking the football, Braden Mann’s 70-yard punt in the first half was the longest by an Eagles punter since Donnie Jones’ 72-yard boot in September of 2016.
Andrew Mukuba’s interception changed the course of the game. It was also the first interception by an Eagles rookie within their first two career games since Rasul Douglas in 2017.
The Eagles are 18-1 over their last 19 games including the playoffs. It’s the best 19-game stretch in franchise history.
The Eagles have now won 16 consecutive games started and finished by Hurts.
A disjointed Eagles offense pulled through
The Eagles offense had an up-and-down day during their 20-17 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, especially in the passing game.
Jalen Hurts finished with 15 completions on 22 attempts (68.2%) for 101 yards. He did not have a passing touchdown for a second straight week. Hurts also had nine carries for 15 yards, including a Tush Push touchdown.
After gaining just 9 yards through the first nine plays of the game on two possessions, the Eagles finally got on the board in the third. Late in the first quarter on first-and-10 from the Kansas City 13-yard line, Saquon Barkley took advantage of sound blocking up front and dashed into the end zone untouched to put the Eagles up, 7-0.
Jalen Hurts response to trash-taking Chiefs defender goes viral
As the Eagles were kneeling down to end the game Sunday, frustrated Kansas City Chiefs defender Chris Jones tried to trash talk Jalen Hurts, to disastrous consequences.
As Hurts lined up for the final snap, Jones yelled, "You didn't even have 100 yards!"
Hurts responded, "We won the [expletive] game so chill out with that [expletive]."
Eagles back at home next week in another playoff rematch
No rest for the undefeated.
Fresh off their Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Eagles (2-0) will head back to South Philly to prepare for Week 3's matchup against the Los Angeles Rams (2-0).
The Rams are coming off a solid 33-19 win against the Tennessee Titans (0-2).
