Eagles to host Packers in Wild Card Round

The Eagles will face the Green Bay Packers in the opening round of the playoffs next weekend at the Linc.

The Packers ended up at the NFC’s No. 7 seed after losing at home against the Chicago Bears Sunday.

Even worse for Green Bay were injuries to quarterback Jordan Love and wide receiver Christian Watson.

Jeff McLane grades the Eagles' win over the Giants

Quarterback: B+

Tanner McKee got his first career NFL start with the Eagles resting most of their starters. Jalen Hurts couldn’t have played either way as he has yet to clear concussion protocol. Kenny Pickett, who got the NFC East-clinching win a week ago, dressed as an emergency, but a rib injury kept him from playing.

So McKee got the call and he answered it. He executed the offense efficiently in the first half and completed 17 of 26 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown before the half. He wasn’t as sharp after the break, but a 7-yard touchdown pass to tight end E.J. Jenkins gave the Eagles all the points they would need.

A look at the Eagles' 2025 opponents

A trip to Orchard Park to face Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills? Jalen Hurts vs. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead?

Thanks to the Eagles’ first-place finish in the NFC East, the Birds’ schedule next season is going to be brutal, at least on paper.

For the 2025 NFL season, the Eagles will face teams from the AFC West and NFC North, two of the best divisions in the NFL this season.

Everything Eagles fans need to know about the Packers ahead of the wild-card matchup

The Eagles started the regular season against the Packers in Brazil. Now they’re going to start the playoffs against Green Bay, this time with a home game in Philadelphia.

If you haven’t thought about the Packers since early September, we’ve got you covered with answers to some of the biggest questions surrounding the Birds’ wild-card matchup with the Packers.

When is the Eagles-Packers game?

Eagles rest starters, but still defeat Giants in season finale

The Eagles ended their regular season with a victory, defeating the Giants, 20-13, at Lincoln Financial Field.

The win improved the Eagles to 14-3, tying the 2022 squad for a franchise record for wins in a regular season.

Next up for the Birds is the NFL playoffs, but their opponent has yet to be decided.

Giants cut into Eagles' lead with Malik Nabers TD

The Giants inched back into the game with a touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

Malik Nabers got loose in the secondary and caught a deep pass from Drew Lock. Eagles safety Tristin McCollum had him lined up for a tackle, but Nabers bounced off McCollum and tiptoed down the sideline for the score.

It's 17-10 Eagles with 10:32 on the game clock.

Tanner McKee hits EJ Jenkins for his first NFL touchdown

Move over, Ainias Smith, EJ Jenkins has his first-ever touchdown catch, too.

The depth tight end caught a seven-yard touchdown from Tanner McKee on the first play of the fourth quarter. Jake Elliott's extra point extended the Eagles' lead to 17-3.

The catch was also the first reception of Jenkins' career. He was promoted to the active roster in early December, but has mostly been a practice squad player since entering the league after going undrafted in 2023.

Giants finally get on the scoreboard

The Giants are on the board.

New York drove 58 yards on 10 plays and then kicked a 25-yard field goal to cut the Eagles' lead to seven. More importantly for the Eagles and everyone else, more than five minutes ticked off the clock.

Was that a get-on-the-board kick or a tank kick? Seemed like a spot you'd try to score a touchdown, unless of course you don't want to win the game.

Packers QB Jordan Love, WR Christian Watson injured vs. Bears

Both starting quarterback Jordan Love and receiver Christian Watson left the Packers’ game against the Bears in the first half and are considered questionable to return.

The Packers announced that Love left the game with a right elbow injury, and Watson was carted off the field with a knee injury, which kept him out of practice in the week leading up to the game. Malik Willis replaced Love in the game at QB.

Pro Football Talk later reported that Love hit his funny bone.

Jake Elliott misses another field goal

Jake Elliott's inconsistencies persisted in the regular-season finale, with the kicker missing a 39-yard field goal attempt early in the second quarter.

Elliott is now up to eight missed field goals on the season, which is the most he's had in his eight-year career. Five of those misses have come at Lincoln Financial Field as well.

On the season, Elliott is 1-for-7 on kicks from 50-plus yards and is now 9-for-10 from 30 to 39 yards.

Tanner McKee hits Ainias Smith for a TD

Tanner McKee picked up where he left off in his first NFL start against the New York Giants.

The 6-foot-6, 231-pound quarterback completed each of his three passing attempts for 48 yards and a touchdown throw to Ainias Smith on the Eagles’ opening drive to go up, 7-0. The Eagles offense made the most of strong field position, starting the drive at their own 49-yard line after the defense came up with a fourth-down stop on the Giants’ first possession.

In his return to game action after spending four weeks on injured reserve, Dallas Goedert made two receptions for 33 yards.

Tiki Barber praises Saquon Barkley to begin Eagles-Giants broadcast

Eagles fans (and Saquon Barkley) might never forgive Tiki Barber, the former Giants running back who said Barkley was “dead to him” after signing with the Eagles. But come Week 18, Barber was put in the position to potentially call Barkley’s NFL-record-setting game.

Barkley was among the Eagles' inactives Sunday, keeping him just 101 yards short of the record, but Barber was complimentary of his season on the broadcast despite the offseason controversy.

“Selfishly, we wanted to see him break a 40-year-old record, held by Eric Dickerson in 1984, but Nick Sirianni just didn’t want to let it be,” Barber said to open the broadcast.

Weather prevented Giants fans from flying a plan over the Linc to vent their frustration

Giants fans have taken to the skies to express their dissatisfaction with owner John Mara and the state of the franchise. Against the Ravens on Dec. 15, a banner flew over MetLife Stadium reading “Mr. Mara Enough – We Won’t Stop Until You Fire Everyone.” On Dec. 8 against the Saints, another banner read “Mr. Mara Enough – Plz Fix This Dumpster Fire.” Two additional banners were planned for the Dec. 29 game against the Colts, which would have read “Mr. Mara Enough – Clean House Or Sell The Team” and “Are drones searching for Giants wins at home?” per NJ.com, but the banners were canceled due to cold weather.

The cold weather also grounded the plane that was planned to fly over the Linc on Sunday, this one taunting the Giants for letting Saquon Barkley go. Per NJ.com, the banner was purchased by Gurgo Law, based in South Jersey and Philadelphia, and was expected to read “TY NY for 26.”

Brandon Graham would be happy to see Mike McCarthy return as Cowboys head coach

It’s been a rough year down in Dallas, to say the least. After winning the NFC East and signing Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb to record-setting extensions, the Cowboys have fallen from grace this season, sitting at just 7-9 going into the final week, and getting drubbed by the Eagles in Philadelphia and in Dallas.

Head coach Mike McCarthy’s contract expires at the end of the season, and owner and general manager Jerry Jones implied that extending McCarthy is on the table for 2025. On ESPN’s NFL Countdown, Brandon Graham said he would like to see it.

“I’ve got a lot of respect, he’s got a lot of respect from around the league,” Graham said. “But right now? Eagles fans are like, ‘Yeah, keep him.’ You know what just happened with us last game. You’re asking the wrong person about this. Dallas, I love it right now. I love the situation they’re in, it’s a fun back and forth. But for me, and I know Eagles fans would agree, keep him, so we can continue to keep beating him.”

Saquon Barkley wears '2K Sa' shirt before Eagles-Giants

Saquon Barkley was officially marked inactive by the Eagles ahead of Sunday’s game against the Giants, but he’s still on the sidelines in a new custom t-shirt honoring his big season.

The “2K Sa” shirt, referencing his 2,005 rushing yards, has cartoon depictions of him and the offensive line, including Landon Dickerson holding up Barkley like he did postgame after the win over the Cowboys. The back reads “How ’Bout Them Boys Up Front.”

A slew of starters are inactive today for the Eagles vs. Giants

To the surprise of no one, a slew of starters are inactive for the Eagles in their regular-season finale against the Giants.

Among the offensive inactives are quarterback Jalen Hurts, running back Saquon Barkley, wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, tackles Lane Johnson and Jordan Maialta, and guard Landon Dickerson.

On defense, cornerback Darius Slay, linebacker Nakobe Dean, linebacker Zack Baun, and defensive tackle Jalen Carter are all inactive.

Brandon Graham on the decision to sit Saquon Barkley: 'We had to learn from our mistakes from last year'

Saquon Barkley will not get the chance to break the NFL rushing record in Week 18 against the Giants. Nick Sirianni announced Thursday that Barkley will sit, along with some other starters, to keep him healthy for the playoffs, since the Eagles are locked into the No. 2 seed.

On ESPN’s NFL Countdown, Brandon Graham shared that, despite the attempted late-game mutinies against the Cowboys to try and get Barkley the record, the team is all good with that decision, and laser-focused on winning the Super Bowl.

“[Sirianni] called everybody,” Graham said. “You know everybody wanted to do it, but I think we learned from last year from A.J. [Brown] going out, we didn’t have him in the first round of the playoffs. We had to learn from our mistakes from last year. I know Saquon, he’s really good about it, the O-line is definitely good about it now. We say we want something bigger, and we know what’s at stake.”

Zack Baun, Saquon Barkley highlight six Eagles named to Pro Bowl

Zack Baun’s “movement patterns” gave Vic Fangio confidence that the Eagles had gotten more than they thought when they signed the former New Orleans Saints linebacker to a one-year deal.

Baun had primarily been used as an edge rusher and special teamer, and depth at a relatively small salary cap hit — $1.6 million — was on the mind when Howie Roseman signed Baun. The Eagles, though, got much more than they bargained for.

Fangio was right. Baun wasn’t an edge rusher, he was an off-ball linebacker. Not just an ordinary one, either. Baun has been one of the Eagles’ best defensive players this season, and one of the surprises of the NFL. On Thursday, Baun, who leads the Eagles with 151 tackles, good for fourth in the NFL, was named to his first Pro Bowl three days after his 28th birthday.

Jason Kelce makes his late-night debut in Philly, F-bombs and all

Jason Kelce officially entered the world of late-night television, and he brought his foul mouth with him.

The retired Eagles star-turned-ESPN personality is probably best remembered for his profane victory speech following the Birds’ Super Bowl victory in 2018. So it’s only fitting the first episode of his new show, They Call It Late Night With Jason Kelce, was filled with language you don’t often hear on the Disney-owned sports network.

“Is this not the f— best?” Kelce said early on to his pregnant wife, Kylie, who serves as the show’s announcer.

Saquon Barkley’s pursuit of Eric Dickerson’s NFL rushing record ends

Saquon Barkley’s pursuit of the NFL single-season rushing record will end 100 yards short.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni revealed Wednesday the running back will be among the starters rested for the team’s regular-season finale against the New York Giants this Sunday. As a result, Barkley will finish the season with 2,005 rushing yards, exactly 100 yards shy of the mark Eric Dickerson set in 1984.

“We’re going to rest some guys,” Sirianni said. “… He’ll probably be someone that rests.”

Eagles vs. Giants predictions: Rounding up the experts’ picks for Week 18

The final week of the NFL regular season is here. The Eagles have already clinched the NFC East and the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, and Nick Sirianni already shared that he plans to rest many of the starters — including Saquon Barkley — against the New York Giants in Week 18.

With the Eagles digging into their depth chart, the game should still be an intriguing watch for Birds fans to get an extra look at the backups, rookies, and potential future rotation pieces. The Giants are currently in the race for the No. 1 overall draft pick, so you’ll still be in for a competitive matchup. The oddsmakers have the Eagles as three-point home favorites.

Here’s how the Inquirer’s beat writers and other local and national media are predicting Sunday’s game …

Eagles will find out their wild-card opponent today. Here’s the playoff scenarios for the NFC.

With nothing to play for Sunday, the Eagles plan to rest their starters against the New York Giants as they prepare for their fourth straight playoff run.

The Eagles will enter the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the NFC for only the second time in the Super Bowl era (the first was in 1980 when they made it to the Super Bowl for the first time). The Birds will host every postseason game they play this time around at the Linc, unless they face the eventual No. 1 seed — either the Detroit Lions or Minnesota Vikings — in the NFC Championship game.

What we don’t know heading into Sunday is the Eagles’ opponent during the wild-card round of the playoffs. It will end up being one of two teams — the Washington Commanders or the Green Bay Packers.

Eagles activate Dallas Goedert ahead of season finale vs. Giants

The Eagles activated Dallas Goedert from injured reserve Saturday, and the tight end is available to play in the regular-season finale Sunday against the visiting New York Giants.

Goedert missed the last four games after suffering a knee injury during the Eagles’ Dec. 1 win in Baltimore. The Eagles opened his 21-day practice window earlier this week, and Goedert on Thursday said he was feeling “really good.” He was listed as a full participant during all three practices this week.

The Eagles are resting most of their starters Sunday, but it would appear the plan is for Goedert to see some playing time as he — in his words — gets “a little bit of cobwebs out” before the playoffs. Goedert said this week that he didn’t feel he needed to play Sunday to feel ready for the postseason but also wouldn’t mind getting some work in.

Ranking the Eagles’ potential playoff opponents from most to least favorable

Although the Eagles’ first playoff opponent is still up in the air, there’s little uncertainty about how difficult the path through the conference will be this month.

After a season spent talking about wanting to achieve the ultimate goal of reaching and winning Super Bowl LIX — or do “special stuff,” as Nick Sirianni has put it on multiple occasions this year — the only thing standing between the Eagles and their pursuit is this Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

How is the NFC playoff picture shaping up for them? Below, we’ll rank the Eagles’ potential matchups from most to least favorable.

  1. 6. Washington Commanders

  2. 5. Los Angeles Rams

  3. 4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  4. 3. Green Bay Packers

  5. 2. Minnesota Vikings

  6. 1. Detroit Lions
