Final Week 18 schedule and all its playoff implications

The NFL released its final Week 18 schedule last night, with the Eagles facing the New York Giants at 1 p.m. on CBS Sunday in what amounts to a bye week heading into the postseason (Saquon Barkley notwithstanding).

Here is the full schedule of Week 18 games with some notable playoff implications:

Tiki Barber to call Eagles vs. Giants

Tiki Barber will join Andrew Catalon, Jason McCourty and A.J. Ross on the call for the Eagles matchup with the New York Giants next Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.

The former running back Barber spent his entire 10-year career with the Giants before retiring and beginning a second career in broadcasting. Barber received some heat earlier in the season after former Giants running back Saquon Barkley signed with the Eagles.

“You’re dead to us, Saquon,” Barber said. “Good luck, you’re dead to me.”

Adrian Peterson welcomes Saquon Barkley to the 2,000-yard club

Adrian Peterson welcomed Saquon to the 2,000-yard club. In doing so, he brought back an image from the time they met on the field gave Barkley a pep talk that foreshadowed what was to come.

Eric Dickerson wants everyone to know he doesn't want his record broken

Saquon Barkley needs just 101 yards rushing to breaking Eric Dickerson's 40-year-old single-season NFL rushing record.

Barkley might not get the opportunity to play, but that isn't stopping Dickerson from rooting against the Eagles running back.

“These people who say, ‘records are meant to be broken,’ you ain’t got no record,” Dickerson told USA Today. "When you get those records, you want to hang on to them. No matter if it was in bowling and you had 30 strikes in a row, you don’t want nobody to break that."

Eagles haven't made a decision on Saquon Barkley or other starters playing Sunday

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni is keeping his cards close to his chest on whether the Birds will rest their starters in Week 18.

The Eagles have clinched the No. 2 seed and have nothing to play for when they take on the New York Giants Sunday.

Sirianni told reporters Monday afternoon he’s “still not there” on making a decision, adding he won’t make any announcements until later this week, after he’s had a chance to speak to his players first.

A lot has to happen for the Giants to land the No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft

The Eagles won't be playing for anything, but the New York Giants might have a strong incentive to lose if the stars align properly on Sunday.

Despite winning against the Indianapolis Colts, the Giants still have a narrow path at landing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft, according to the NFL Media Research Department:

  1. Giants loss vs. Eagles AND Patriots win vs. Bills AND Titans win vs. Texans AND Browns win vs Ravens

So yeah, not likely.

Eagles Pro Bowl predictions

With the initial Pro Bowl roster announcement coming in the next week or two, let’s look at some of the Eagles players’ cases going into the selection process.

By my count, the Eagles should have at least six players named to the initial roster with others in the mix as well. Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, Jordan Mailata, Lane Johnson, Jalen Carter, and Zack Baun should all be firmly on the roster and each has a strong case for All-Pro nods later this season as well.

Jalen Hurts, Landon Dickerson, Nolan Smith, Nakobe Dean, Quinyon Mitchell, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson have made strong cases as well.

The Dolphins need Carson Wentz's help to make the playoffs

The Miami Dolphins’ win over the Cleveland Browns kept their playoff hopes alive — and hinging on former Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz.

The Fins need to beat the New York Jets on the road, which is likely, but must also have the Chiefs win at Denver.

The trouble is, the Chiefs, having secured the No. 1 seed in the AFC, surely won’t play their starters, especially not quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Eagles will face a brutal schedule of opponents in 2025

Now that the Eagles have clinched the NFC East, we have just about a clear picture who the Birds will be facing in 2025.

On paper, it’s going to be a tough schedule.

The Eagles are set to face teams from AFC West and NFC North, two of the best divisions in the NFL this season. At least five of the eight teams are playoff bound, and the Denver Broncos could punch their ticket to the postseason with a win Sunday.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson atones for his ejection with 2 INTs

C.J. Gardner-Johnson stood in the victorious Eagles locker room wearing a black ski mask. His dark eyes were visible, but the mouth that often gets the safety into trouble was covered with a red and white label that read, “Supreme.”

The vociferous Gardner-Johnson didn’t do much yapping on Sunday. He let two supreme interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown, do most of the talking in the Eagles’ 41-7 destruction of the lowly Cowboys that clinched the NFC East.

The division title was there for the taking a week ago against the Commanders, but it slipped away, in part, because Gardner-Johnson was ejected for taunting. It remains unclear what he said to earn his second personal foul, but did he have additional motivation a week after the disqualification?

Nick Sirianni in a rare coaching club after Cowboys' win

Nick Sirianni has certainly had his ups and downs as the Eagles head coach, but its hard to criticize his results.

Sunday’s win against the Cowboys gives Sirianni 47 wins in his first four seasons as the Birds head coach, the second most in NFL history.

Only former San Francisco 49ers head coach George Seifert has more wins in his first four seasons (52) as head coach.

Who will the Eagles play in the playoffs?

The Eagles will be the No. 2 seed, but which team will they face in the opening round of the playoffs?

It will be one of two teams — the Washington Commanders or Green Bay Packers.

The Commanders will end up with the No. 7 seed if they lose Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys and if the Green Bay Packers win against the Chicago Bears. In that case, it’d be the Commanders traveling to the Linc to face the Birds in the wild-card round.

NFL announces Eagles-Giants time

With nothing on the line for either team, the Eagles will take on the New York Giants at 1 p.m. on CBS Sunday in Week 18.

Calling the game will be Andrew Catalon, Jason McCourty, and former Giants running back Tiki Barber.

The Birds are locked into the No. 2 playoff seed, and will likely rest most of their starters against the Giants in what amounts to a bye week.

Eagles injury report

The Eagles will be fairy healthy heading into the playoffs, and will be able to rest their starters in Week 18 against the New York Giants.

Here is the latest Eagles injury report:

  1. Quarterback Jalen Hurts (concussion) did not play Sunday and will get an extra week to recover.

  2. Quarterback Kenny Pickett (ribs) was forced out of the game in the third quarter after taking a shot from Micah Parsons.

  3. Defensive end Bryce Huff (shoulder) left in the first quarter but returned to the field.

  4. Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson limped off the field early in the fourth quarter favoring his right leg and entered the medical tent.

Other Eagles players that missed Sunday's game with injuries: Running back Will Shipley (concussion) and linebacker Nakobe Dean (abdomen)
