An apple for the teacher?
Ken Weinstein, who owns Trolley Car Café at 3269 S. Ferry Rd. in East Falls and Trolley Car Diner at 7619 Germantown Ave. in Mount Airy, will mark National Teacher Appreciation Day on May 7 by giving away cones or bowls of ice cream to teachers.
Hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the East Falls restaurant, and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Mount Airy.
He’s also kicking in 25 percent of the day’s sales from both restaurants to a teacher’s fund that grants up to $500 to public school teachers for materials, equipment, field trips and programs.
His rep said that last year, the Trolley Car Teacher’s Fund provided more than $20,000 toward Philly schools and teachers.
