Isgro Pastries

South PhiladelphiaBakery$

This bustling rowhome-size bakery in South Philly has been summoning customers with its sugary, buttery aromas since 1904, and keeping them coming back for classics like cookies, cannoli, rum cakes and pesca con crema (a peachy, creamy sponge cake sandwich). By the time you read this, those sweet smells will be imported as Isgro will maintain its silvery storefront at 10th and Christian, but do all of its baking at a roomier facility (with an accompanying café) on Columbus Boulevard. The fourth-generation, family-run institution earned a James Beard nomination in the Outstanding Bakery category last year.
