Taqueria La Prima

Mexican$-$$

Late night taco-holics know this bare-bones Italian Market nook as Prima Pizza, though since it no longer makes pizza, the name has been changed. What Prima does make are some of the boldest biggest tacos around, piled high with pickled nopales cactus strips, grilled green onions and a roasted jalapeño. The Oaxacan-style tamales wrapped in banana leaves and served daily (instead of just weekends) are an added draw. But the best item here might be the huge torta sandwich overstuffed with tender chunks of lengua (that's tongues), cheese and greens that taste even better in the early morning hours. Prima serves until 3 a.m. (and sometimes later), making it one of Philly's most flavorful late-night haunts.
