Global pop star and known Pennsylvania devotee Zayn Malik paid a visit to a Northeast Philadelphia pub this week. The former One Direction boy band member has connections in Philly that date back years.

Paddy Whacks Irish Sports Pub welcomed Malik and a guest to the bar on Roosevelt Boulevard this week. The pub shared a photo of Malik with the pub’s weekly bingo host, “Machine Gun” Terri Carrigan, who runs bingo nights throughout the region.

Paddy Whacks also shared a photo of Malik captured from the restaurant’s security cameras, which drew the ire of some on social media over privacy concerns.

The 33-year-old British singer has been seen visiting Pennsylvania establishments as far back as 2017, when the mother of Gigi Hadid — Malik’s then-girlfriend, with whom he shares a child — bought a home in New Hope. Since then, he has quipped that he may one day be buried in Pennsylvania, making the comment during an interview with Drew Barrymore, in which Barrymore mentions her own Keystone State ties.

Malik and Hadid both reportedly still have homes in Bucks County and live there. Although the two are no longer a couple, with Hadid now dating Jenkintown-born Bradley Cooper, Malik and Hadid co-parent their 5-year-old, Khai.

Malik is navigating a busy, yet tumultuous, year, with his latest album, Konnakol, dropping on April 17, debuting at No. 2 on Billboard’s top album sales chart. It appeared that would lead into one of his largest solo tours yet. Earlier this year, Malik completed a seven-night residency in Las Vegas.

However, on May 1, Malik shared with his 51 million followers that he would need to cancel all U.S. tour dates, including in Philadelphia — which was scheduled to be the first stop on the tour — after he was hospitalized last month for an unspecified illness.

“To my fans: Thank you so much for all the support and love you’ve shown me on the album release and more importantly your love, prayers, and well wishes for my health. I’ve felt it, and it’s meant the world. I’ve been at home recovering and I’m doing well and will be better and stronger than before.”

Malik’s Pennsylvania appearances became less frequent after his breakup with Hadid in 2021. At the time, Malik and Yolanda Hadid, Gigi Hadid’s mother, got into a physical altercation, according to court documents, with Malik shoving Yolanda Hadid into a dresser after the singer used expletives to demand she “stay away” from Malik and Gigi Hadid’s daughter.

Malik pleaded no contest to four counts of criminal harassment stemming from the altercation with Yolanda Hadid, who listed the New Hope home last year for nearly $11 million.
