Teen killed in Strawberry Mansion shooting

A shooting in Strawberry Mansion led to the death of a teenager Saturday night.

The 16-year-old victim was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital at 6:31 p.m., according to a police report. He was not identified by police.

The teenager was shot once in the head, police reported, in the shooting on the 2400 block of Firth Street at 6:10 p.m. The teenager was found with a gun, police reported.

There was no information on the shooter Saturday night, and no arrests had been made.

The shooting was the latest in a year that has been plagued with gun violence. There had been 325 homicides in the city as of Friday night, according to police statistics, more than have been reported by this time of the year in any of the last 13 years. The number of deaths this year is just 31 shy of the total number of killings in all of 2019.
