Sixers' Jahlil Okafor: 'I'm just waiting to see what happens'
Jahlil Okafor said it crept into his mind that Wednesday's practice could be his last with the 76ers.
"I'm just waiting to see what happens," the center said following practice. "I'm keeping my phone on, waiting to see what happens. Obviously, everybody knows the deadline in coming up tomorrow."
Okafor is the most likely Sixer to be traded before the 3 p.m. deadline.
A league source agreed with an NBA.com report that the Los Angeles Lakers could be a possible destination for the second-year player. The website also reported that the Sacramento Kings are another possibility. So are the Indiana Pacers, according to ESPN.
The New Orleans Pelicans, Denver Nuggets, Portland Trail Blazers and Chicago Bulls were teams that had expressed some interest. However, sources have said the Bulls and Nuggets are no longer interested.
Okafor, however, said the Sixers had discussions with 10 or 11 teams.
He said there will be no hard feelings if he remains a Sixer beyond the trade deadline after being openly shopped around. He was even held out of two games when the Sixers felt they were close to a deal.
"I'm happy here," Okafor said when asked if he wants a new start with a different team. "I've been here. This is all I know as far as the NBA goes. I've gotten real comfortable with the coaches, and my teammates. If I'm here, I'd be more than happy."
