2 more beer gardens: Old City and Fishtown

Sto's bar has one. So does Evil Genius.

Just when we thought the summer crop of beer gardens was all set come two more:

Old City bar Sto's is opening a beer garden on Friday, July 8 in a former vacant lot at 240 Market St. (It's two doors from the bar, along the alley (Bodine Street) next to the 7-Eleven store.)

The lot didn't look like much during a visit July 7, but owner Michael Stosic says tables and tailgate chairs will be ready. Besides beers, the food will be in-house-smoked brisket, chicken, ribs, and pork.

For the first two weeks, hours will be 6 to 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday. For two weeks after that, Thursday will be added. Then it will run nightly through September or October.

In Fishtown, Evil Genius' future brewery (1727 N. Front St., near Columbia Avenue) launches a family- and dog-friendly beer garden series in partnership with Home Brewed Events.

They're putting on free movie and music nights and offering a selection of local beers and food trucks. Proceeds will benefit a different local charity each month. First up will be the Fishtown Neighbors Association.

For opening weekend (Friday, July 8), it's Music Under the El  from 5 to 10 p.m. It's BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair). Hours on Saturday, July 9 will start at 4 p.m. At 8 will be a free screening of American Pie 2. On Sunday, July 10, the programming (noon to 5 p.m.) includes food trucks and outdoor games such as giant Jenga and Evil Genius corn hole.

Full dates: July 8-10, July 22-24, August 19-21, September 9-11, October 14-16.
