Feb. 1 is the target opening of Bufad, a wood-fired pizzeria at 13th and Spring Garden Streets, in the burgeoning Loft District. The spot, on the southeast corner, was Yum Yum, a longtime Chinese takeout.

Added to Bart Blatstein's new apartment building at Broad and Spring Garden and to the music venue Union Transfer two blocks east on Spring Garden, and the neighborhood nicknamed "Eraserhood" is perking up.

Bufad will be the third restaurant over two blocks for owners Michael and Jeniphur Pasquarello. They are approaching the 10th anniversary of their first operation, the industrial-chic Cafe Lift, in a former police-hat manufacturing plant at 428 N. 13th St., and the fifth anniversary of Prohibition Taproom, a bar in a former shot-and-beer a half-block north at 13th and Buttonwood.

And they're not done. They're working on a restaurant, to open in summer 2013, that will specialize in whole-animal butchering (and beer). It's planned for the 1300 block of Frankford Avenue in Fishtown, near Frankford Hall and Fette Sau.
