BeerLOVE: A bottle shop for Queen Village
Environmental-advocacy lawyer and beer geek Kristen Cevoli thought that her slice of the world - Pennsport and Queen Village - could use a bottle shop.
Environmental-advocacy lawyer and beer geek Kristen Cevoli thought that her slice of the world - Pennsport and Queen Village - could use a bottle shop.
So she is building one.right now at 714 S. Fourth St. in Queen Village, down the block from Famous 4th Street Deli on the old Fabric Row.
Rather than just sell bottles and growler-fills, BeerLOVE will offer a few extras.
Cevoli is setting up what she calls a community beer membership. Modeled after the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) concept, BeerLOVE customers can sign up for store memberships that will include a monthly specialty six-pack, events, access to special sales, and first access to rare beer sales.
Cevoli plans to have a few lines of beers for tasting - beer flights - and will set up a so-called Randall system - a filter contraption known as an organoleptic hop transducer module. In essence, it is a double-chamber filter connected to a beer tap that will allow Cevoli to infuse beer with flavor-enhancing ingredients. (Cevoli saw such a system, created at Dogfish Head in Delaware by Sam Calagione, and was impressed with it.)
Food will be beer-centric snacks brought in from outside, as there will not be a kitchen. Closing will be no later than 10 p.m.
Cevoli said opening depends on the licensing process. She is hoping for Philly Beer Week, May 29 to June 7, but believes that June is more likely.
