Bonchon coming to Chinatown

Korean fried chicken franchise BonChon is being built on the ground floor of a new apartment building at 1020 Cherry St.

A new late-night destination is on the way to a Chinatown side street:

It's a branch of the Korean fried chicken franchise Bonchon, and it's being built on the ground floor of a new apartment building at 1020 Cherry St. That is across the street from Simply Shabu, the hot-pot specialist.

Bonchon's Korean fried chicken - twice-fried and bathed in soy-garlic or hot sauce - is much crispier than the Colonel's. Bonchon means "my hometown," according to founder Jinduk Seh.

The birds from Cafe Soho are generally considered the standard in Philly and inspired Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook to fry chickens that way for Federal Donuts.
