Bryn & Dane's: Healthy fast food now in Plymouth Meeting

Bryn Davis - now with more than 100 employees - opens the largest Bryn & Dane's location, at 115 Plymouth Rd. (off Butler Pike) in Plymouth Meeting.

Not too long ago, a guy named Bryn was sharing a room with a guy named Dane.

Bryn worked late into the night on his idea for a healthy fast-food restaurant. Dane just wanted to get a good night's sleep.

They're brothers; Bryn is now 30 and Dane is 14.

Four years ago, Bryn Davis opened a small smoothie shop, which morphed into a well-trafficked cafe in Horsham, a catering arm, and a stand inside the Ambler YMCA.

Menu is based on wraps, salads, and smoothies. Here's a prelim version of the one served at Plymouth Meeting.

On June 12, Davis - now with more than 100 employees - opens the largest Bryn & Dane's location, at 115 Plymouth Rd. (off Butler Pike) in Plymouth Meeting (610-825-6794).

The building also houses Bryn & Dane's headquarters. Designed by Matt Scheller, the restaurant has soaring ceilings and a Scandinavian simplicity in its white walls (where a projector plays videos) and wooden furniture. That is the intention, Davis said. If he and his team want to change anything, they can do it on the fly with minimal destruction.

The menu, too, is easy to fix. It's all on touch screens. This location is using techie BKON infusers to add natural flavors to organic tea and coffee; mint is grown upstairs in the office. Microgreens are grown in-house. A tap system dispenses organic ice teas, sparkling water, lemonade, and two La Colombe ice coffees.

For now, hours in Plymouth Meeting are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. After July 1, when breakfast comes on line, it will open at 6:30 a.m.

Davis, by the way, is in full-on expansion mode.

While his first location was funded with $12,000 he had earned while working on his grandfather's farm, he has obtained an investor whose portfolio is in the tech arena. A new lease is being executed in Doylestown, he said.
