Burger shop coming to East Passyunk

P’unk Burger (1823 E. Passyunk Ave.) will be owned by Marlo and Jason Dilks, who have the SLiCE pizzerias in South Philly, Rittenhouse and Washington Township.

South Philly's East Passyunk Avenue has many wonderful cuisines in its fast-growing restaurant collection - Italian, French, Dutch, American, Mexican, Japanese, low-fat - and plenty of bars. Come this fall, it will have another Italian and an Asian restaurant.

What East Passyunk does not have is a burger shop.

This deficiency will be remedied this November with P'unk Burger (1823 E. Passyunk Ave.), owned by Marlo and Jason Dilks, who have the SLiCE pizzerias in South Philly, Rittenhouse and Washington Township. It's taking Chhaya's former spot.

P'unk's menu will include grass-fed, hormone- and antibiotic-free beef and poultry, fresh salmon burgers (not ground), and soy-free veggie burgers; hand-cut fries; an assortment of milkshakes; and vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free options. Cooking will be done on a flat-top and char-broiler.

The couple, who live off of East Passyunk and own a shop at 10th and Federal Streets, found the location easily as Chhaya announced plans to move. Marlo's mom's boutique, A Star Is Born, is right next door, at 1821 EPA. (Which means that if the Dilkses' four kids decide to visit Grandma after lunch or dinner at P'unk, they'd better wash up.)

P'unk, which will accommodate 25 to 35 people, will be set up with AC outlets and free wifi. It's being set up with is described as a modern diner look.

They plan to be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, with a late-night menu and extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays.
