'Cake Boss' Buddy Valastro will visit for charity
He'll sell cakes for Rachael Ray's charity by day, and judge cakes by night.
Buddy Valastro, TV's Cake Boss, has a busy day planned in Philly on Monday, April 27.
From noon-ish to 2 p.m., he will host a bake sale outside the future home of a Carlo's Bake Shop at 21st and Walnut Streets, near Rittenhouse Square. (It's supposed to open this spring.)
Valastro will have cannoli, cupcakes, and Italian cookie boxes, with all proceeds bound for No Kid Hungry, in support of the Rachael Ray show's 9 Million Meals initiative. Cameras from Rachael Ray will be there.
That evening, Valastro will be lead judge - with Next Cake Boss winner Dana Herbert as assistant lead judge - at the 11th annual Let Them Eat Cake competition at the Crystal Tea Room. It starts at 6 p.m.
LTEC, which attracts wedding pastry chefs from four states as well as culinary students from three local schools, is a benefit for women's cancer research and the human trials, conducted at City of Hope, on the HIV vaccine.
This year's theme is "Masterpieces in Cake," and chefs are asked to interpret paintings, sculptures, music, dance, architecture, and the like.
Attendees can sample more than 30 pieces of cake (with take-home containers provided) plus wine/spirit tastings, and music. It's $50 at the door, space permitting.
