Cake and the Beanstalk to close June 30
Owner Daniel Klein, whose pastry resume includes some of the top restaurants in town, has taken a job already heading up the expanding bakery operation of Famous 4th Street Cookie Co.
Cake and the Beanstalk, the sunny, adorable bakery-cafe at 1112 Locust St., will end its run of five years-plus on June 30.
Owner Daniel Klein, whose pastry resume includes some of the top restaurants in town, has taken a job already heading up the expanding bakery operation of Famous 4th Street Cookie Co. That business, under new owners, is opening a bakery in East Falls; it has a retail stand at Reading Terminal Market.
Klein says he is holding what he calls a silent chair-ity auction for all of the shop's chairs - hand-painted by his wife, Jenn - through Saturday, June 25 at 6 p.m.
All proceeds will be split between the art program at Nebinger School and Lucy Belle's Rainbow, which provides art supplies to children at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
