Chef change at Taproom on 19th

Choplin out, Milligan in.

Chef Jennifer Choplin - who joined Michael Strauss and Pete Fry when they bought Taproom on 19th Street in South Philadelphia last fall - is gone.

Mutual parting (e.g. "we wish her the very best"), Strauss told me.

The Taproom's new chef is Elijah Milligan, who was executive chef at Stateside before joining Nicholas Elmi at Laurel.

Milligan is due in the house at the Taproom Wednesday, May 28.

Strauss says Milligan's new menu will start in two or three weeks, but the Taproom's overarching concept - "upscale, comfort, stoner food" - will remain.

I'm awaiting comment from the usually loquacious Choplin, who will compete in July in Ommegang Brewery's Hop Chef competition.
