Gene Giuffi grew up in Brooklyn in a family of pizzamakers.

So when he thought of a new concept for his former Blue Belly BBQ shop at Sixth and Catharine Streets in Bella Vista, that's where his mind went.

Expect Square Pie, opening in October, to sell squares of Sicilian pizza, as well as pastas and entrees. There's a tiny dining room and counter for eat-in, and he'll offer takeout.

Since Giuffi and his wife, Amy, own Cochon across the way, he will incorporate such hand-made porcine delights as roast suckling pig in his Square Pie work.

But the straightforward toppings will be out in force, said Amy: "Our son [who is 5] loves pepperoni."

October's opening will coincide with Cochon's seventh anniversary.
