Ella's American Bistro, at the starting line

Not satisfied with simply selling BMWs, Cortright Wetherill Jr. of Devon Hill BMW has gotten himself into the restaurant business.

Due to open Dec. 19 is Ella's American Bistro in Wayne's Devon Square (214 Sugartown Rd., Wayne), named after his mother. (Not to be confused with Ela, the Jason Cichonski-Chip Roman newcomer in Queen Village.)

Executive Chef Matt Schuler - a Johnson & Wales University grad who was born in Lancaster and raised in Georgia - is cooking from scratch and doing the local-sourcing thing (sustainable, naturally raised, organic, chemical-free, etc., etc.).

Opening lunch menu is here. Opening dinner menu is here. Dinner entrees will be $12 to $28, with a special or two topping out at $35. It'll be open for weekday lunch and nightly dinner; Sunday brunch will start after New Year's.

Though it's white-tablecloth, they're going for a distressed feel with wood-paneled walls. The bar, which will serve craft beers and classic cocktails, is made of an organically milled sycamore tree; the wine list consists of about 50 bottles and 12 wines by the glass.

Also on the Main Line front: The Thai restaurant Flavor, which shared a building on Lancaster Avenue in Wayne with the new HogFish Bar & Grill, is done after 20 years. Founders Win and Sutida Somboonsong say they sold the business a year ago but are on the hook for the lease.
