Exit, Boilermaker

Enter The Butcher and the Brewer on 11th St.

The Grainery Restaurant Group is pulling the plug on The Boilermaker, which opened only six months ago on the former site of Doc Watson's at 216 S. 11th St. (After Doc's, it was Blue Bear Tavern for 30 seconds.)

The Boilermaker's last call will be Monday, Sept. 10.

Grainery is refocusing it around meat and charcuterie, local produce, and beer under the name The Butcher and The Brewer. Some renovation will yield a butcher shop theme and I'm told it will keep its 40 taps and craft boilermaker drinks. Opening date TBA.

Executive chef Jennifer Choplin's resume includes Watkins Drinkery, Bistrot La Minette, and Resurrection Ale House, and she can write, too, as a contributor to the Amusing My Bouche blog.

Grainery also is behind the Farmers' Cabinet and previously operated Fork & Barrel in East Falls and Tap & Table in Emmaus, Pa.

Post updated to clarify that Grainery will still operate it.
