Feastival - the lavish, annual benefit for Fringe Arts - attracts a who's who of the Philadelphia food community, who will set up stations the evening of Sept. 17 at the Fringe Arts HQ at Columbus Boulevard at the foot of Vine Street.
Among the restaurants sampling wares at this, the sixth Feastival, will be Stephen Starr's Alma de Cuba, Barclay Prime, Buddakan, Butcher & Singer, The Dandelion, El Vez, Fette Sau, Morimoto, Parc, Pizzeria Stella, and Pod; Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook's Federal Donuts, Percy Street Barbecue, Zahav, and Abe Fisher and Dizengoff; and Audrey Taichman's Audrey Claire and Twenty Manning Grill.
Food operations making their first appearance include Aldine, Blue Duck BYOB, Cheu Noodle Bar, Dizengoff, The Farm at Doe Run, the forthcoming Hungry Pigeon, Junto BYOB, Kensington Quarters, La Divisa Meats, Lo Spiedo, Pub & Kitchen, Rival Bros., Taproom on 19th, and Whetstone Tavern. Also cool is the silent auction, whose big-ticket items are tempered somewhat by a few more populist prizes.
The go-for-broke food items are two chef packages. Bids start at $10,000 for a team of six big-name chefs to show up in your home kitchen to create a dinner party (one features Jon Cichon of Lacroix at the Rittenhouse, Jason Cichonski of Ela and Gaslight, Nicholas Elmi of Laurel, Chris Kearse of Will, Natalie Maronski of Volver and Scott Schroeder of South Philly Tap Room, American Sardine Bar, and Hungry Pigeon, while the second has Joncarl Lachman of Noord and Neuf, George Sabatino of Aldine, Michael Solomonov of Zahav, Percy Street Barbecue, Federal Donuts, Dizengoff, Abe Fisher, and Rooster Soup Co., Greg Vernick of Vernick Food + Drink, Andrew Wood of Russet, and Peter Woolsey La Peg Brasserie and Bistrot La Minette).
But then there's a bacon-focused five-course dinner for four people - with bids starting at $500 - thrown by Mike Oraschewsky of Bacon Jams. And bids start at $50 for a box full of porcine deliciousness from 1732 Meats, delivered.
