Gnocchi returning to Queen Village

This will be Sandro Frusone's second comeback to the spot at 613 E. Passyunk Ave. that he opened in 1997. In 2000, he moved to Italy for 10 years.

Gnocchi - Sandro Frusone's homespun Italian BYOB just steps from Fifth and South Streets - is coming back, a year and a half after the space was rented to another restaurateur. That trattoria, Spitalieri's, closed recently.

This will be Frusone's second comeback to the spot at 613 E. Passyunk Ave. that he opened in 1997. In 2000, after he moved to Italy for 10 years, another operator ran the restaurant.

Frusone hit the restaurant radar with the long-gone Ristorante San Carlo, which he operated with his brother, Giancarlo. They now own Me-N-Mo, the meatball specialist at 214 South St.

Sandro Frusone said he's aiming for a mid-June opening.

(Post edited to clarify that someone else ran Gnocchi during Frusone's time in Italy)
