Is Genji returning to Rittenhouse?

Though the corporate folks are not talking, I'm hearing that sushi giant Genji is fixing to get back into the restaurant game in Center City. Location: 32 S. 18th St., which most recently was Grillicious.

Though the corporate folks are not talking, I'm hearing that sushi giant Genji is fixing to get back into the restaurant game in Center City.

Location: 32 S. 18th St., the corner spot that most recently was Grillicious.

Genji - which at one point had two restaurants in town - now does an extremely tidy wholesale business, as it runs more than 100 sushi stands inside Whole Foods markets. Genji is now a unit of Peace Dining Corp.

Genji was founded in University City in the mid-1980s by grocer-turned-restaurateur Hideo Omori.

After Omori's 1999 death, the last storefront Genji, at 1720 Sansom St., was sold and rebranded as Kingyo. That building has been vacant for several years.

No timeline has been announced for the 18th Street location.
