Kanella South is getting closer
Konstantinos Pitsillides and his wife, Caroline, have picked up a bar, a much larger dining room, and a sweet outdoor space, as well as two kitchens.
One of the more eagerly awaited late-summer openings is Kanella South (757 S. Front St.), which represents more than just a mile and a half move for Konstantinos Pitsillides' much-honored Greek-Cypriot restaurant from a busy corner in Washington Square West to the calm of Queen Village.
Pitsillides and his wife, Caroline, have picked up a bar, a much larger dining room (maintaining the original's brightness), and a sweet outdoor space, as well as two kitchens. You'll probably find Pitsillides at the open kitchen in the dining room, where he has a charcoal grill and a wood oven set up side by side.
New GM Ulises Robles, last at Positano Coast, has set up the bar.
Opening is looking like mid-September.
Pitsillides says he is unsure about the future of the original Kanella at 10th and Spruce Streets, which he still has under lease.
