Lucky Fortune replaces Chinatown's House of Chen

New at 932 Race St.

This time last year, I mentioned that the House of Chen - a long, long-running Chinatown restaurant - was being reconfigured into a Cantonese eatery with two floors of karaoke above, run by the crew from the nearby Banana Leaf.

It finally opened at 932 Race St., but details so far are skimpy.

Staff at Lucky Fortune - as it's now called - politely turned away my requests for info,

It opens daily at 4 p.m. but stays open till 3 a.m.

Decor is nothing fancy - wood-topped tables, acoustic ceiling tiles, hardwood floors. There are several karaoke rooms.

Menu is budget-priced (most entrees are under $12) and includes chop suey (whose roots are said to be in Canton) as well as fresh seafood from a tank in the back.

A sign on the wall outside, written entirely in Mandarin, advertises a  lobster and steak combo for $25.95.
