'Cake Boss' opening Carlo's Bakery in Marlton

Buddy Valastro of TLC's Cake Boss and Buddy's Bakery Rescue fame says he's opening a branch of Carlo's Bakery in Marlton Square shopping center on Saturday, Nov. 8.

Buddy Valastro of TV's Cake Boss and Buddy's Bakery Rescue fame says he's opening a branch of Carlo's Bakery in Marlton Square shopping center on Saturday, Nov. 8.

Valastro himself is expected to cut the ribbon at 11 a.m. at the store, branded as Carlo's Bake Shop.

The shows have turned the Valastro family bakery in Hoboken, N.J., into a tourist attraction. Besides Hoboken and Marlton, there are four bakeries in New Jersey and one in Las Vegas.

Word of the Marlton opening was met with mixed reactions on the shop's Facebook, with the predictable plaudits being outnumbered by people complaining about the shopping center's tough parking situation as well as one critic lambasting Valastro for defying the "bakery rescue" aspect of his TV shtick by "killing a lot of small local bakeries by opening all of these new locations."

Well!

Last winter, real estate brokers announced a deal to install a Carlo's at the northwest corner of 21st and Walnut Streets in Center City. The former Hollywood Tans parlor is still vacant, though a "leased" sign still hangs from the facade. A Carlo's rep could provide no information on a Philly location.
