Meet Michael Symon, the Iron Chef and 'Chew' food guy
When Savor Borgata came up in Atlantic City - it's this weekend, Nov. 8-10 - he said he had to do it. "I don't get to Atlantic City a ton but I always have a blast when I do," he said.
Of all the Food Network's Iron Chefs, it's probable that no one travels more than Michael Symon.
For the last two years, he has burned the skies twice a week between his native Cleveland and New York, commuting for his cooking segments on The Chew.
Symon owns four restaurants in Cleveland, one in Detroit, and a stand at Pittsburgh's airport (which he regularly flies over).
This keeps him busy - so busy that "I only do about four food events a year," he said. "I prefer to spend time at home. [Commuting] gives me the best of both worlds. I get New York and I get to see grass and trees and stuff."
But when Savor Borgata came up in Atlantic City - it's this weekend, Nov. 8-10 - he said he had to do it. "I don't get to Atlantic City a ton but I always have a blast when I do," he said.
His fellow Iron Chef Bobby Flay owns a restaurant at the Borgata, and he will join Flay, Fornelletto Cucina & Wine Bar's Stephen Kalt, Izakaya's Michael Schulson and Borgata executive pastry chef Thaddeus DuBois at a Friday night dinner at 28 West billed as "A Taste of 5 Culinary Masters. The cocktail reception starts at 7:30 p.m. and is followed by a four-course dinner. (It's $149 per person.)
Symon also will sign his new book "5-In-5" at 3:30 p.m. Saturday inside 28 West.
Then from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Borgata Event Center, Symon, Flay, Kalt and Schulson (who also owns Sampan in Philly and co-owns The Saint James in Ardmore) will host a $79-per-person party called "Street Eats: Eat, Drink, Hobnob." (Ticket info is here.)
