Mexican cafe planned for South Philly

Globe-trotting entrepreneurs Jill Weber and Evan Malone of South Street's Jet Wine Bar and Rex 1516 are backing Cafe Ynez, a Mexican diner and cafe, at NextFab Studios in Point Breeze.

Point Breeze is getting more restaurant action.

Globe-trotting entrepreneurs Jill Weber and Evan Malone of South Street's Jet Wine Bar and Rex 1516 are backing Cafe Ynez, a Mexican diner and cafe, at NextFab Studios at 2025 Washington Ave.

NextFab - a design, engineering and computer-controlled custom fabrication workshop - is the "day job" of Malone, a physicist. Weber is an archaeologist.

There's no timetable established for Cafe Ynez, which will serve breakfast/brunch, lunch and dinner and will specialize in Mexican coffees and rotisserie chicken. It will be BYOB.

Jet chef JC Piña - an alum of Rouge, Tinto and Morimoto - is importing his mother's mole recipe from his native Mexico City, and Weber/Malone have enlisted the services of a local woman to prepare tamales.
