Mike Solomonov, movie star: 'In Search of Israeli Cuisine' to premiere

Philadelphia's Ritz 5 - next door to Solomonov's restaurant Zahav - gets it on March 31.

Roger Sherman's documentary In Search of Israeli Cuisine, in which Philly chef Michael Solomonov tours the nation to tell its story through people and food, is ready to reach theaters nationally after hitting the film-festival circuit.

Its premiere will be March 24 in New York City.

Philadelphia's Ritz 5 - next door to Solomonov's restaurant Zahav - gets it on March 31, as do theaters in five California cities.

From there, it will roll out through April. If you miss it at the Ritz, it will open at the Hiway in Jenkintown on April 23.

Sherman's film profiles chefs, home cooks, farmers, vintners, and cheese makers representing the more than 100 cultures that make up Israel today. Solomonov's role in the film dovetails with his own cookbook Zahav: A World of Israeli Cuisine.

Solomonov's upbringing spans the continents, as he was born in Israel and raised in Pittsburgh.
