Mugshot Diner ready to go

Fishtown newcomer.

More than a year in the making, Mugshot Diner will grand-open Thursday, May 30 at 2424 E. York St. (215-426-2424), a few blocks west of Aramingo Avenue, in Fishtown.

Mugshot is named after owner Chris Voz's former diner, in Mount Holly, and has no affiliation with the Mugshots coffee shops in Fairmount and Brewerytown. Voz also runs the Diamond Diners in Hainesport and Egg Harbor Township, N.J.

The retro newcomer - at York and Gaul Streets on the corner of the 2424 Studios mixed-use development - is huge: a 150-seater with an open-kitchen countertop, yellow and blue booths, plenty of chrome and granite, and multicolor LED lighting indoors and outdoors. Mugshots decorate the walls. Menu is the size of a good-size phone book.

Hours will be 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday to Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 3 a.m. Thursday, and 24 hours on Friday and Saturday.

They plan to have a DJ from 2 to 6 a.m. weekends.
