Paloma to resurface in South Philly

The critically praised haute French-Mexican, once in an unlikely section of Northeast Philadelphia, will set up on Eighth Street.

Paloma, one of the city's top-rated French-Mexican restaurants, didn't quite make its 10th anniversary when it closed last October.

Its location on a forboding block of Castor Avenue in Oxford Circle didn't exactly help business, but chef Adan Saavedra and his wife, Barb Cohan-Saavedra, said they also wanted to focus on family issues.

At the time, Cohan-Saavedra told me that when they did resurface, they'd be downtown, to compete with the big boys.

And that is what is happening. "Downtown" as in South Philly.

They've signed on for 763 S. Eighth St., the former Mezza Luna.

They hope to open initially as a BYOB in mid-June. See their Facebook page here.
